Dr. Heather Zechman
Dr. Heather Zechman has over 15 years of experience in gynecology. She studied Biology at The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, went on to complete medical school at The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, and then residency at George Washington University. Dr. Zechman has worked in Richmond, Virginia since 2003. She joined Arizona Gynecology Consultants in 2017.
While in college and medical school, Dr. Zechman participated in research projects at DuPont Laboratory and The University of Florida. She also worked as a nurse’s aide, and obtained EMT certification. During residency, she participated in medical student education. Also, she received the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists Award in recognition of her surgical skills. Dr. Zechman is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Zechman is a member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. Dr. Zechman’s interests include: minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (traditional and robotic approaches), gynecologic care from adolescence to menopause (including first time exams, gynecologic care for athletes, pelvic pain, irregular/painful menses, uterine fibroids), and patient education.
During her time in Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Zechman was active in community service. She volunteered her time in local medical clinics and traveled to Honduras on a medical mission. In her free time, Dr. Zechman enjoys whitewater rafting, camping, yoga and hot yoga, classic cars (she owns a 1965 Ford Mustang), and listening to classic rock music. Dr. Zechman is fluent in medical Spanish.
Dr. Kelly Roy
Dr. Kelly Roy is a specialist in surgical gynecology and advanced laparoscopy (and hysteroscopy). She is a long-time resident of Arizona and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering at Arizona State University before finishing her Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Arizona in 1997. She also spent some time at Northern Arizona University where she studied the arts as a piano performance major. Dr. Roy completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the then “Banner Good Samaritan Hospital” (now Banner University Medical Center), in Phoenix Arizona in 2001.
Well known for her teaching and surgical ability, she is on the faculty at the residency program at both Banner University Medical Center and Saint Joseph’s Hospital in central Phoenix and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix Campus. Dr. Roy has taught advanced surgical techniques to medical students, residents, fellows and colleagues for over 15 years. She is the founder and medical director of ARIZONA GYNECOLOGY CONSULTANTS, which opened in 2006, a practice dedicated to providing specialty surgical and gynecology care to women. In 2009, she opened GYNESURGICAL, a fully licensed and Medicare certified Ambulatory Surgery Center in order to provide a setting for women to have advanced minimally invasive procedures in a supportive and intimate environment.
Dr. Roy is also a consultant to the medical device industry and has participated in the design and clinical testing of many instruments and surgical devices available on the world-wide market today. As such, Arizona Gynecology Consultants has been a resource for the Medical Device Industry for advanced clinical trials and cutting-edge research. She has won several awards including Doctor of the Year and has been named as one of Phoenix Magazine’s Top Docs. Her special interests and areas of publication include congenital abnormalities of the reproductive tract, care of lesbian and transgender patients, minimally invasive therapies of heavy periods and fertility sparing non-surgical and surgical treatments for uterine fibroids. She lives in Paradise Valley with her husband and children and in her spare time enjoys golfing, traveling and playing the piano.
Dr. Thomas J. Waliser, M.D.
It is with great excitement that we welcome and introduce a new Physician to the Arizona Gynecology Consultants team; Dr. Thomas J. Waliser, M.D.
Dr. Waliser is a gynecology specialist, performs minimally invasive surgery, and has been practicing medicine for over 22 years, primarily in the Scottsdale and Tucson areas. He graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences and completed his residency at St. Francis Hospital. Dr. Waliser is fellowship trained in Advanced Laparoscopy/Hysteroscopy and is board certified.
Dr. Steven J. Laband, MD, MS
Dr. Laband joined Arizona Gynecology Consultants in January of 2020.
After attending Stanford University and receiving his Master’s and Bachelor of Science in Biology and Medical Microbiology with honors and distinction, Dr. Laband obtained his MD at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. From there, he relocated to Phoenix where he has been an active part of the medical community for over thirty years.
In addition to direct patient care, Dr. Laband serves on various committees at Banner Univ. Medical Center Phoenix. His titles include Clinical Assistant Professor, Associate Director, and Section Head of the Gynecology Division.
Hormone and Metabolic Specialist:
Dr. Eugenie Anderson
Dr. Eugenie Anderson joined Arizona Gynecology Consultants in 2014. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and received her medical degree at the distinguished Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland in 1978. She completed her first year of internship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia then came to Arizona for her residency training at Maricopa County Hospital, which she completed in 1983. Dr. Anderson was in solo practice for the majority of her early and mid-career as a generalist in obstetrics and gynecology and teaching faculty in the residency programs in central phoenix. She has been a provider of Women’s Health in the Phoenix area for over 33 years. Although she no longer practices obstetrics, she has delivered over 1000 babies and has performed every major surgical procedure in gynecology.
Over the past 26 years, she has focused her practice on general female reproductive and gynecologic health issues, and metabolic and hormonal balance for women of all ages. Dr. Anderson has always had an active and vigorous lifestyle and her enthusiasm for the benefits of exercise and personal wellness has set her apart as one that “practices what she preaches”. She is known to her patients as a kind, passionate care giver who spends the time to get to know her patients and their issues. Dr. Anderson is also a great example for women in the professions. As a young African-American woman, she experienced first-hand the prejudices against women in the professions as well as the struggles of civil rights during her early training. She is a woman of grace and character who never let those obstacles define her. Dr. Anderson enjoys quiet off time at her cabin in Northern Arizona and is a reader, knitter and maker of gemstone jewelry.
Kristina Calligan, FNP
Kristina Calligan is a sub-specialty nurse practitioner in Women’s Health. A native to Arizona she obtained her Bachelor of Science in nursing in 2006 at Grand Canyon University in Glendale, Arizona. Never one to stop striving and achieving all that she could, she completed two master degrees in Nursing Science and Business Administration in 2012. Ms. Calligan joined Arizona Gynecology Consultants in 2009. Prior to working at Arizona Gynecology Consultants, she worked as a nurse in labor and delivery at several local hospitals and a research coordinator in women’s health care.
Ms. Calligan is a consultant to the ambulatory surgery industry and serves as a Medicare inspector for surgery center compliance. She has a long history in Women’s Health in the valley having owned and operated the very first free standing birth center in the state of Arizona. Ms. Calligan is also a clinical instructor of nurse practitioner students having provided clinical training for Grand Canyon University. In addition to seeing her own patients, she is Director of Operations for our clinics and surgery centers. Her specialties include office based gynecology procedures, clinical research and patient education. In her free time, she enjoys supporting and spending time with her many family members, participating in community service, golfing and has recently taken up knitting!
Julia Anne Cyr, DNP
Julia is excited to join the team at Arizona Gynecology Consultants. After receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Arizona State University, she worked several years as a nurse in step down trauma and cardiac units at Scottsdale Osborn Hospital. Julia also served as a traveling nurse, gaining invaluable experience at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California and Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Julia went on to earn a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Arizona where she focused on family practice with a specialty in women’s health.
Julia has always had a passion for delivering healthcare to women at all ages and stages of life but has special interests in contraception management, hormone replacement, adolescents and especially in wellness, nutrition and weight loss. She is excited to address women’s health concerns in addition to helping them meet their weight loss and healthy lifestyle goals.
When not at work, she is usually outside running or inside doing yoga. She also dedicates an inordinate amount of time raising her awkward but lovable dog, Samson (with the limited help of her equally unruly husband). She also enjoys volunteering in medical mission trips, frequently in Sonoyta, Mexico where she treats women, men and children in a medically underserved community.
Nikkeya Boyd, FNP
Fulfilling her dream of becoming a nurse practitioner Nikkeya Boyd joined Arizona Gynecology Consultants in 2019. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri in St. Louis and her graduate work at Grand Canyon University graduating in 2018. In her 16 years in health care NIkkeya also spent time working in family practice but found it most rewarding to take care of and treat the unique and sensitive needs of women. She has a special interest in providing care to women of all ages with hormonal imbalances and educating women on primary prevention. NIkkeya was the first provider at Arizona Gynecology to go live on our telehealth services.
When not at work NIkkeya loves to stay active and has recently begun snowboarding. She also enjoys reading, listening to podcasts and meal planning which goes hand in hand with her love of cooking for her son.
